Full name: Amina Mahmoud Hassan Hamid | آمنة محمود حسن حميد
Poet and editor in a number of media outlets.
On April 24, 2024, Journalist Amna and her eldest son, Mahdi, were killed when Israeli warplanes bombed their family home in the Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City. The bombing also injured four of her other children, some critically, while her infant daughter, Duha, survived because she was with a neighbor. Amna and her family had previously endured bombings, injuries, and displacement, in addition to the arrest of her husband, journalist Saed Hassouna, illustrating the suffering of Palestinians during the genocide.
She was born in Gaza to a family with roots in the Palestinian city of Isdud, she lived in the Yarmouk refugee camp. She obtained her bachelor's degree from the Islamic University of Gaza in 2016, then enrolled in the master's program at Al-Aqsa University. She worked for several local newspapers and radio stations, giving a voice to the marginalized and advocating for women's rights and the Palestinian cause.
Before she was taken from us, Amna faced a smear campaign, as Israeli Channel 14 broadcast a picture of her and claimed that she was part of the armed Palestinian resistance, and that her presence in Al-Shifa Hospital proves that Hamas is "hiding in the hospital.
Eulogy by journalist Wael Al-Halapi: "Journalist and poet Amina Hamid and her eldest child Mahdi were killed in a bombing that targeted her family's home in the Al-Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City. She is the wife of media activist Saed Hassouna, who was recently released by the occupation forces and deported to Rafah."
