Archivist Notes
Lebanese photojournalist Hussein Hammoud, from the town of Yahmar al-Shaqif, was killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted him while filming in the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh. Hammoud was part of Al Manar’s team covering the war in southern Lebanon, and was at his office when it was targeted.
He was known for his passion for photographing the green nature of the south, and for taking pictures that exude the beauty of those areas and reflect their charm. Hammoud specialized in public activities, especially political news, and had a wide presence in covering activities in southern Lebanon. He was distinguished by his professional photography style, and always worked in a team spirit.
His friends called him «the brave photographer, because of his drive to document the wars waged by the Israeli enemy. He did not hesitate to be on the front lines, conveying the picture as it was, without hesitation or fear.
Lebanon’s Minister of Information Paul Morcos denounced Hamood’s killing and demanded international action against the targeting of journalists.
“…With all pride and honor, the Media Department of the Second Jabal Amel Region announces the martyred photographer Hussein Ali Hammoud, who died in the pursuit of media and truth, and in defense of Lebanon and its people.”
The Minister of Information, Lawyer Dr. Paul Morcos expressed his deep regret and sadness at the news of the martyrdom of Al-Manar TV photojournalist Hussein Hammoud, following the Israeli attack on the city of Nabatieh today, and he saw this as "a clear and repeated additional violation of the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their annexed protocols of 1977, which stipulate the necessity of neutralizing, Rather, protecting journalists in the performance of their professional mission, because the rules of war themselves are violated, as there is no excuse or justification to justify this".
